CAPE TOWN - City Mayco member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, has instructed that a full forensic investigation of the entire MyCiTi N2 Express fleet be conducted.

A bus was traveling along the N2 highway on Thursday when the driver was forced to pull over at the Borcherds Quarry off-ramp due to a fire at the back of the vehicle.

The passengers and the driver were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Quintas said that the vehicle operating company that runs the N2 Express service is required to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and implement any measures necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.

"Once this investigation is concluded, the city's insurance specialists, the bus manufacturer and the operating company will convene to establish a proccess on the way forward. While the cause of the incident remains unknown at this stage, residents and commuters are assured that we will take appropriate action once all the reports are submitted."
