'ANC was already on its knees when Zuma's MK party entered the fray' - Steenhuisen

PRETORIA - The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it believes it now has a clear path to victory ahead of the seventh democratic elections.

It also laid blame for the African National Congress's (ANC's) continued decline at the door of its president Cyril Ramaphosa.

The main opposition took to the lawns of the union buildings on Saturday, launching an aspirational manifesto - which speaks of its hopes to take over the highest office in the land.

Party leader John Steenhuisen told supporters that for the first time in the DA's history, it wasn't fighting to oppose the governing party but was instead in a race to defeat the ANC, this amid predictions that the ANC will go under 50% at the polls.

Steenhuisen also celebrated the advent of former president Jacob Zuma's Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.

"The truth is the ANC was already on its knees when Jacob Zuma's MK party entered the fray. As we speak, MK is devouring millions of ANC votes. And the ANC only has one man to blame for its demise - Cyril Ramaphosa."
