SEREMBAN: The astroturf hockey stadium at Seremban 2 here, which has been in unplayable condition since 2019, has been given RM5mil for an upgrade, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
The Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar said the allocation from the Youth and Sports Ministry would be used to replace the pitch, as well as upgrade the underground drainage system and floodlights.
"This has taken some time because we initially thought that it would only cost RM2mil to replace the turf.
"But when the old turf was removed, we found that the underground drainage system is also not functioning," he told reporters after chairing the state executive councillors' meeting on Wednesday (Feb 28).
The last tournament held at the stadium was the state senior hockey league in 2019.
Aminuddin said the ministry had also allocated a further RM12mil to upgrade the Rakan Muda sports complexes in Tampin and in Kuala Pilah.
Each stadium would get RM6mil, he added.
He said the state had obtained the necessary approvals and the three projects would begin soon.
