The Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) has supported the call by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to review the curriculum and guide students into their preferred choice of career.

FTA general secretary Paula Manumanunitoga said this was imperative and should happen from primary school level.

"As far as we know there is a need to review the current curriculum in primary and secondary school level," he said.

"This is to basically guide students to a career path of their choice. In doing this, teachers can then gauge which student is advanced academically and the kind of career they can take up later in life.

"Teachers, through this review can also see which students are good with basic skills and can be channelled into vocational or technical training."

Mr Manumanunitoga said such program in the education system would also help teachers identify and redirect and better plan curriculum that was suitable for Fiji's needs.

"The Prime Minister is right and we support his statement.

"This needs to be done and these were issues discussed at the Education Summit so we hope it's put to action."
