Abdul Hadi being investigated by special police investigation team, says Saifuddin

IPOH: The investigation into Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's statement that allegedly hit out at the Malay Rulers and several other parties is ongoing, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said a special police investigation team which handles cases related to 3R (race, religion and royalty), is currently probing the matter.

"It is being investigated with haste. The team has seven days to complete the investigation before referring the investigation paper to the Attorney General," he said at a press conference during his visit to Rumah Seri Kenangan here on Monday (March 4).

Saifuddin Nasution said he could only share specific details related to the matter and would not intervene in the investigations.

"There are things that can be shared, I will share," he said, adding that the police have received a number of reports on the matter.

Abdul Hadi issued a statement titled "The Stature of Islam Must Be Defended", published on the party's portal on Feb 20.

His statement came after the Federal Court had struck out 16 criminal provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code Enactment (1) 2019 on Feb 9.

The Marang MP also got a royal rebuke from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris.
