NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 4 - Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has called on Kenyans with businesses to electronically generate and transmit their invoices to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) via the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).
The taxman says it has now simplified the platform to accommodate small businesses and the informal sector.
It had put the deadline for the onboarding of existing businesses to the eTIMS platform on March 1.
This means that all existing businesses not onboarded to eTIMS will risk being locked out of business transactions by their clients due to their inability to submit their digital invoices to the taxman.
In a statement, KRA says the move is aimed at ensuring tax compliance across all sectors of the country.
"KRA remains committed to continue supporting and facilitating all taxpayers to comply with the requirements of the law by adopting a facilitative and collaborative approach to tax compliance," KRA said in a statement.
"To this end, we have availed eTIMS simplified solutions dubbed "eTIMS Lite" for non-VAT registered taxpayers," it added.
"These solutions are accessible through the eCitizen platforms via *222# for the USSD invoicing solution and ecitizen.kra.go.ke for the web based invoicing solution."
Earlier, KRA had extended the deadline in a bid to give room for businesses that had not onboarded eTIMS to comply.
The window, however, applies to existing companies, with new ones expected to onboard even after the deadline lapses.
