JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) in Ekurhuleni is on Tuesday expected to hold a media briefing on the way forward following its violent clashes with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) during a council sitting.

The two parties, which are co-governing the metro, have been at war with one another.

The ANC called on its higher structures to allow for the relationship to collapse.

The ANC said it wants to touch on several important issues, including the state of service delivery, and the recent chaos seen in the chamber.

If Ekurhuleni's motion of no confidence against Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana had gone ahead last week, he'd probably be out of a job. This is in part why the fracas in the council chamber broke out in the dead of the night.

The EFF and ANC have been at odds, with the latter party complaining that this relationship doesn't serve it and its constituency.

The ANC has also accused the EFF of not only taking key positions in the metro but using these to frustrate its councillors on the ground.

It has further accused the red berets of using the metro as its cash cow, with insiders claiming its coffers were being channelled towards several activities for the fighters, including some of its big political programmes.

This as the EFF over the past few months has claimed that the ANC was harassing its MMCs and trying to bring down the party.
