The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) confirmed it has embarked on an extensive initiative to rehabilitate or redevelop properties within their portfolio.

This statement was made after a tenant at Harbour Centre, Suva, and owner of Aussie Price Fighter, Michelle Khan, claimed her shop had been inundated by flood waters several times because wastewater disposal had been problematic.

Ms Khan, who also owns two other businesses within the FNPF-owned building, said all three shops were affected by the leakage.

FNPF chief executive officer Viliame Vodonaivalu said as a major property owner, FNPF knew too well the importance of the upkeep of its properties.

"It is not something we take lightly," he said. "We acknowledge the issue that has occurred at one of our tenant's shops at the Harbour Centre complex in central Suva and while we continue to work towards resolving the issue, we are making headway with our plans for the redevelopment of the property.

"We always strive to be responsive to our tenants' requests or concerns because we value the relationship, we have built with them -- many of whom have been with us for years."

Mr Vodonaivalu said this engagement would continue so tenants were not only aware of their plans but also updated about progress.
