ST THOMAS, Jamaica -- Three St Thomas women were on Friday freed of the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm after the complainant admitted that she was dishonest in her statements.

Forty-seven-year-old Enid Plummer; 20-year-old Shaya Plummer and 26-year-old Daydrine Plummer were jointly charged with assaulting the complainant in 2022.

On Friday, they were acquitted when they appeared in the St Thomas Parish Court after their attorney, Rodain Richardson, pointed out certain discrepancies to the trial judge.

The Crown heard evidence that the complainant was at her place of employment when the Plummers attacked her, causing injuries.

Richardson challenged the veracity of the witness' statements and evidence and during cross-examination in court, several material inconsistencies and discrepancies were brought out.

The complainant admitted to Richardson during cross-examination, that she was not totally honest in her claims against the Plummers.

The Plummers had denied assaulting the complainant, and the trial judge, who was satisfied with the arguments from the defence, acquitted the women.
