NANYUKI, Kenya Mar 10 - President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua paid heartfelt tribute to the late former State House Comptroller, Lawrence Lenayapa, for his unwavering dedication to serving the nation.

During the funeral service at the Benedictine Monastery Catholic Church in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, Deputy President Gachagua, reading a message on behalf of the President, described Mr. Lenayapa as a diligent public servant who wholeheartedly served the country, having also served as Ambassador to The Netherlands.

Deputy President Gachagua, a close family friend of Mr. Lenayapa for over three decades, passionately eulogized him, urging Kenyans, particularly the political leadership, to emulate his exemplary service. He emphasized Mr. Lenayapa's selflessness and commitment to community welfare, urging leaders to prioritize collaboration over competition for the betterment of society.

In his address, Deputy President Gachagua encouraged leaders to follow in Mr. Lenayapa's footsteps by actively contributing to the development of their communities and fostering unity among citizens. He emphasized the importance of empathy and altruism, highlighting Mr. Lenayapa's dedication to supporting educational initiatives and church projects.

"I will personally oversee the education of the children Mr. Lenayapa was supporting and ensure the completion of the church project in his memory," Deputy President Gachagua pledged.

Reflecting on their enduring friendship, Deputy President Gachagua fondly remembered Mr. Lenayapa as a humble and generous individual who prioritized family, community, and country above all else. He acknowledged Mr. Lenayapa's pivotal role in stabilizing the Presidency during his tenure as State House Comptroller, praising his integrity and commitment to public service.

Mr. Lenayapa, who passed away at the age of 59, is survived by his wife Esther and daughters Joan and Paula. He had a distinguished career, serving in various capacities, including District Officer, District Commissioner, and Principal Secretary before his appointment as State House Comptroller in 2013. He later served as Kenya's ambassador to the Netherlands until 2022.

"He was a dedicated servant of his community, always putting their needs first. His legacy of selflessness and generosity will endure," Deputy President Gachagua remarked.

The funeral was attended by several dignitaries who paid tribute to Mr. Lenayapa's impactful contributions to community development, highlighting his instrumental role in infrastructure projects, healthcare facilities, and educational initiatives across Kenya. They praised his unwavering commitment to service and his enduring legacy of compassion and dedication to the marginalized and minority communities.
