JOHANNESBURG - Murder-accused paediatric surgeon Peter Beale is set to continue testifying before the High Court in Johannesburg on Monday.

Beale has been accused of reckless conduct, which the State said resulted in the deaths of three children he operated on.

His trial finally got under way earlier in 2024, five years after he was first arrested and charged.

The State wrapped up its case a week ago and the defence has now called Beale as its first witness.

The State charges that he performed surgeries that were not necessary to recoup some R1.5 million he lost in the infamous Tannenbaum Ponzi scheme.

In his evidence-in-chief, he vehemently denied this.

He labelled as tragic the deaths of the children involved in the matter but denied any wrongdoing.
