Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) members wanting to acquire land leases using their housing eligibility funds can now do so, thanks to a partnership with the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB).

TLTB and FNPF have formalised its partnership via a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will facilitate the issue of leases to members who opted to use their housing eligibility with the Fund.

TLTB interim CEO Solomoni Nata said this was an important collaboration because they had received queries from Fund members who wanted to apply for residential leases using their housing eligibility.

"We have had a lot of FNPF members in the past who wanted to apply for residential leases using their housing eligibility funds from FNPF.

Through this MoU, we would be able to improve our service delivery and serve the iTaukei landowners and the people of Fiji better," Mr Nata said.

FNPF general manager Member Services Alipate Waqairawai said the Fund was committed to serving its members' needs, particularly in securing adequate housing.

"We're building on improving our stakeholder relations and in this instance, partnering with TLTB reinforces our commitment to supporting our members access better housing opportunities,"

Mr Waqairawai said. "With this MoU, we expect faster customer service response times for member application processing.

"Internal procedures will now enable better and more coordinated documentation verification across both of our institutions.

"This should also ensure earlier notifications on the status of member applications when applying for native leases,"

Mr Waqairawai said. Under the MoU, TLTB and FNPF will work closely to ensure Fund members can easily access TLTB leases for housing purposes.

Both institutions stated their commitments to ensuring the issuance of TLTB lease titles to FNPF members would be carried out efficiently, and in turn contribute to the overall socio-economic development in the country.
