CAPE TOWN - Human rights organisation Black Sash is calling on South Africans to recommit themselves to building a country where every person can live with dignity and security.

Speaking in light of Human Rights Day on Thursday, Black Sash spokesperson Thandi Henkeman told Eyewitness News that it is crucial to acknowledge the realities faced by many in society.

"Our daily advocacy work reminds us that there are still barriers to overcome in ensuring that all individuals can enjoy their rights fully."

Henkeman said South Africans should use Human Rights Day as a catalyst for change and a reminder to uphold the principles of human rights.

"Human Rights Day is not just about looking back, it's about actively working towards a more equitable society where all rights are truly enjoyed by all."
