NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 22 - Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Benard Kitur has petitioned Parliament to investigate the illegal acquisition of Kapkakaron Farm by Tinderet Development Trust Company.

According to the legislator, the land was to be given to the Kapkakaron community for the settlement of squatters and the establishment of public institutions.

MP Kitur demands the National Assembly, through the Public Petitions Committee, to engange both the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, for the Kapkararon Community to be given back the land.

"Among the Blocks of land donated by Kakuzi to the community was Septon, measuring 433.02 Hectares . In particular, 242 Acres was to be used for the establishment of Kapkakaron Technical Secondary School and Block (Septon Syndicate) measuring 440 acres was earmarked for the settlement of squatters," said Kitur.

The land in dispute was part of parcels of land acquired by the White Colonial Settlers in the 1940s and owned by Kakuzi Limited; however, Kakuzi later sold the land to Tinderet Development Trust Company, a private developer.

"The said Tinderet Development Trust Company Limited is a non-existent company as per the response letter from the the Registrar of Companies dated August 6 2015 which then makes the transfer of the community land to a Fantom company null and void," said Kitur.

He stated that following negotiations with the community, the local leadership, and Kakuzi Limited, it was agreed that some blocks of the land should be given to the community.

MP Kitu said the settlers have been occupying the parcels of land for the last 50 years.
