JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba says National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula must be criminally charged.

The Speaker is fighting bribery allegations and is currently on special leave.

She's accused of soliciting bribes worth millions during her tenure as Defence Minister.

Opposition parties are calling for her resignation.

At the same time, Mashaba told eNCA he's not shocked by the poor state of municipalities, particularly in Gauteng.

He says metros in the province are in a deplorable state, with service delivery being hampered on an ongoing basis.

Mashaba's ActionSA launched its election manifesto on Saturday.
