California Airports, Stadiums Now Exempted Under Fast-Food Law

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed legislation Monday exempting airports, stadiums, and other venues from a new law raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour at fast-food chains across the state.
The exemptions (A.B. 610) come at the urging of UNITE-HERE, a labor union representing workers in hospitality and tourism. The union argued food-service workers in those facilities are often covered by other local rules and paid more than workers at fast-food franchises.
