NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 30 - Kenya's monthly inflation dropped by 0.6 percent to 5.7 percent last month after the prices of some key commodities fell.

This was an improvement from an inflation rate of 6.3 percent in January.

Inflation subsided after 50 kilowatts of electricity dropped by 0.4 percent, 2 kilos of maize flour by 5.1 percent, sugar by 5.3 percent, and petrol by 3.5 percent.

Other products whose prices dropped include diesel by 2.6 percent, kerosene by 2.3 percent, and wheat flour by 4.8 percent.

Dropping inflation is a relief for many Kenyans who have been complaining about the high cost of living amid dwindling purchasing power.

However, onions, potatoes, mangoes, cooking gas, beef, and tomatoes increased by 11.1 percent, 7.7 percent, 8 percent, 2.4 percent, 0.6 percent, and 1.8 percent, respectively.
