NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 - AFC Leopards head coach Thomas Trucha has disclosed how he had to balance out his squad that played against Shabana FC in the FKF Cup on Sunday in Kisumu, to give all his players observing the fast during this holy month of Ramadhan playing time that would not push them beyond the limit.

Randi Bakary and Hassan Beja all played under 60 minutes, with Aziz Okaka entirely rested for the match. Bakary, who played at right fullback for the first time this season, had a decent outing especially in cutting out Shabana's runs on the wings.

"We had to look at the guys who are fasting and give them enough playing time but not push them too much. We also have to ensure they remain fresh and strong for the next game," Trucha told Capital Sports after the game.

Okaka has been playing frequently as a right back for most of the season, but Trucha decided to switch up tactically with Randi playing on the right and Kayci Odhiambo returning to play as a centre back.

Trucha was delighted with the performance of his team against Shabana, though he admits they had a poor start allowing Shabana to have several forays at goal.

"From minute one to minute 20 we didn't control the game well but we picked up towards halftime. I told them at halftime that we shouldn't concede first and also told them to change the target in the set pieces. I wanted them to play either the first post or in the middle. It worked, and we found Kaycie and scored. I think we deserved to win and go to the next round," the coach noted.

Leopards will now take on National Division One side Compel in the quarter finalsand despite flying in blind against them, having no prior knowledge, the tactician says he will try to find clips and videos to analyze them to prepare a good game plan for the last eight.

Trucha still maintains belief that his side can win the title, and says victory against Shabana has given them enough confidence that they can go all the way.

"We are hungry to win something this season. We want to go all the way. I told the guys if we beat Shabana, the doors are open. We have three more rounds to go and we will give our best," Trucha further added.

Leopards will now shift their attention to the Premier League, where they take on Sofapaka on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium.
