NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 - Mara Sugar head coach Benedict Wanjala says their exit in the FKF MozzartBet Cup is a 'good thing' and it will give them an opportunity to concentrate on their chase for Premier League promotion.
The National Super League side was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Cup after losing 2-0 to Division One side Compel FC, with coach Wanjala saying it was a product of his charges under estimating their opponents.
"We approached the game casually and we underrated them. We were punished for that. You can never do that in football," the tactician told Capital Sport.
He adds; "It is a good thing that we have been eliminated early and now we can focus on the league."
Mara who have come close to earning promotion to the top flight over the last two seasons are currently placed fourth in the National Super League with 47 points, after 24 matches played.
They are three points away from an automatic qualification spot, currently occupied by Mathare United, who have played a match more than them.
Coach Wanjala says they have picked vital lessons from their Cup exit and will look to give their all for promotion.
"This exit is like a wake up call to us. We had relaxed a bit thinking that we are okay now and things will be smooth but we must go back and work. We have to take game by game for the rest of the season and treat each match like a final. Everyone in the league has ambitions= and we have one too," noted the tactician.
Their next NSL match is on Sunday, and they host Mombasa Stars at their Awendo Stadium backyard.
