PETALING JAYA: Datuk Nicol David is proud of S.Sivasangari's achievement, and the squash legend has motivated the youngster to go after her dreams and create her own story of success.
"My wish is that she will be seen as her own self and player, " said the eight-time world champion. I believe she has all the potential to write her own story. "
Nicol had stayed up to watch the thrilling London Classic final on Monday that saw the world No.13 Sivasangari knocking out world No. 2 Hania El Hammamy of Egypt 11-9, 5-11, 13-11, 12-14, 11-8 to become the first Malaysian to win a gold level tournament in recent times in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) world tour.
Sivasangari had eliminated world No. 1 Nour ElSherbini of Egypt, No 2 Hania and world No. 4 Nele Gilis of Belgium in the same tournament.
"I watched her match and she was amazing," said Nicol. She's got a lot of squash sense and her awareness on the court is immaculate. That makes her a unique player.
How far can Sivasangari go, and can she emulate Nicol's staggering achievements?
Nicol thinks so.
"She can go as far as she wants to and all we have to do is to encourage her by keeping her motivated," added Nicol.
