CHICO, Calif. -- On Tuesday, the Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) presented its Annual Report on its Military Equipment Use.

This comes after being approved by the Butte County Board of Supervisors earlier in April for the renewal of their military equipment use. The report dove into every piece of equipment that was used in 2023 and provided examples of real Butte County scenarios where the military equipment was considered crucial. Including details on one thing that has slowly become a key piece of equipment for law enforcement: drones.

"Drones are becoming more and more commonly used, even at the patrol level," said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea. "We use this equipment judiciously, more of the time it is deployed in conjunction with our SWAT Team so there is a complete planning process that goes into place."

In the meeting, BCSO also broke down budget costs, new equipment requests and how they plan on using the existing equipment in 2024.
