GEORGE TOWN: Heavy traffic greeted Penangites early in the morning of Hari Raya on Wednesday (April 10) with large crowds at mosques, commercial areas and tourist attractions.
Roads leading to mosques, such as Masjid Hashim Yahaya in Jalan Perak, were congested as thousands turned up to visit the graves of their loved ones in the morning.
They then gathered at home to celebrate the festival with family members and friends.
By noon, traffic on Jalan Utama, Jalan Kelawai, Weld Quay and other roads within the city's heritage enclave was at a crawl as tourists took advantage of the holidays to travel.
Foreign workers on holiday also turned out in droves to visit the state's attractions.
So far, no untoward traffic incidents have been reported, with police seen manning roadblocks and diverting traffic at busy roads.
