KISUMU, Kenya, Apr 10 -- A Kisumu Court on Tuesday sanctioned the jailing of Kisumu Couty Executive Committee Members for Finance and County Finance Chief Officer for contempt.
George Oking'o and Paul Waweru spent four hours in a court cell before their release after paying a Sh50,000 fine each.
Justice Rashid Mwanaisha had ordered a month-long jail term for the two appointees of Governor Anyang' Nyong'o after they defied an order, a move he noted amounted to contempt of court.
Justice Mwanaisha found the two officers in contempt after they failed to pay Amondi and Company Advocates Sh5 million for services rendered.
The officers appeared in court where they argued their case as to why they had not been able to pay the money as directed by the court earlier.
Okong'o told the court that the County Government was still waiting for the disbursement of funds from the National Treasury to be able to make the payments.
