NAIROBI, Kenya, April 12 - The National Transport and Safety Authority has partnered with the OYE Platform to promote road safety measures for boda boda riders.
The partners say that the initiative is aimed at reducing the high number of road accidents in the country.
They added that the annual death toll involving boda drivers and passengers on Kenyan roads is extremely high, with estimates ranging from over 1,600 deaths per year to one-third of all road accident fatalities.
"Boda drivers are a critical part of Kenya's transportation ecosystem, but also face significant road safety challenges. This partnership with OYE will allow us to reach more drivers with life-saving road safety education and training," said NTSA Director General George Njao.
On his part, OYE CEO Kevin Mutiso observed that the partnership will go a long way in creating road safety awareness among boda boda riders.
"OYE is committed to supporting the Boda community, not just through financial services, but also by prioritizing their safety. We are excited to work alongside NTSA to roll out impactful road safety programs that can reduce accidents and save lives," he said.
