CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The following is a look back at editorial cartoons I produced for Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer on some of the top local and national stories in the news for the week of April 7, 2024. As an EXTRA BONUS, is added a look at the groom of multiple child brides who authored the Arizona 1864 Abortion Law.

EXTENDED ECLIPSES:

While the actual Solar Eclipse on Monday afternoon lasted just minutes, there are two other eclipses lasting much longer than they should. They are the Donald Dictatorship threatening to eclipse democracy for 7 more months to 4 years, and the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Trump's Immunity Appeal in his J6/Election Subversion trial.

This week, Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a 'brief' with the Supreme Slowpokes calling on them to reject Trump's appeal that they could have and should have rejected the week Trump filed it.

ARIZONA 1864 ABORTION LAW:

The Arizona Supreme Court reaffirmed the state's 1864 law banning abortions with the only exception being when the mother's life is endangered. A current 15 week ban on the books was aborted because the Court said it based on Roe v. Wade which the U.S. Supreme Court has aborted.

1864 ABORTION BAN AUTHOR:

Above is an illustration by an unknown artist of William Claude Jones, author of the 1864 Arizona Abortion Law.

Bios of Mr. Jones describe him as "prevaricator, a poet, a politician and the pursuer of nubile young females."

Jones was in fact the groom of multiple child brides in the 5 times he was married. Three of his wives were 15, 14 and 12.

When Jones was Speaker of the Arizona Territorial Legislative Assembly he wrote the law banning abortions.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and the Secretary of State from Alabama both sent warning letters to the Biden Campaign, the DNC and state party officials telling them Biden would be left off each state's ballot if their notification of nominee deadline was not met. The deadline is before the Democrat's nominating convention.

Before the Trumpification of the Republican party, a waiver or extension of the early deadline was always quickly and amicably issued.

FINAL FOUR ECLIPSE

Last Sunday, Cleveland hosted the NCAA Women Basketball Championship game after hosting the 'Final Four' playoffs that began Friday April 5. It was a great pre-show to the Solar Eclipse that followed Monday afternoon.
