Cross-examination of self-confessed hitman in Nafiz Modack trial to continue

CAPE TOWN - The cross-examination of the State's first witness, a self-confessed hitman, continues in the gang trial of alleged underworld kingpin, Nafiz Modack, on Thursday.

The witness, who can only be identified as "Mr A", claims Modack hired him to murder former Hawks officer Nicolaas Heerschap, bouncer Pisou Falanga, tow truck driver, Richard Joseph, and defence attorney, William Booth.

Modack's attorney, Mohamed Sibda, on Wednesday, scrutinised Mr A's allegation that his client offered him R3 million to kill prominent Cape Town defence attorney, Booth.

Sibda told the court he found it strange that Mr A would agree to such an offer as he had previously told the court Modack was unable to pay him R60,000 for the hit on Heerschap.

Sibda went on to question an alleged meeting between Mr A and Modack at a petrol station in Stikland, where Modack is said to have congratulated Mr A for the murder of Heerschap's father and plans of the Booth hit were discussed.

Modack denies meeting Mr A and pleaded not guilty to all 124 charges he faces.

The trial continues in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.
