Investigation underway after apartment building fire in Avon

AVON, CT (WFSB) - Crews battled a fire at an apartment building in Avon Sunday night.

The fire was located at 44 Avonwood Road. Roughly 58 units were impacted.

All residents were able to evacuate safely. One firefighter has been transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Agencies from around Avon were at the scene trying to get the blaze under control.

"Crews started making knockdown as soon as they arrived , but the size of this building, the amount of occupants, we started having resources head this way right away," said Avon Fire Chief Bruce Appell.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are working with firefighters to help find dozens of people somewhere safe to stay.
