MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday ordered the Metro Manila Council (MMC) to stop the imposition of higher penalties against illegally parked vehicles.

In a video message, the President said while he understood the intention behind the proposal, he had decided "to prioritize discipline over penalties."

Speaking in Filipino, the President said " to ensure our government's good service, I disapproved Joint Traffic Circular 01 of the Metro Manila Council that increases the penalty for illegal parking from P1,000 to P4,000."

He said the new Filipino was "disciplined."

"By focusing on individual responsibility we can create long-lasting solutions to our traffic challenge," the President said.
