NAIROBI, Kenya, April 24 - The Nexgen Packaging Kenya EPZ LTD has been launched, joining the over 170 licensed companies countrywide that operate under the Export Processing Zones (EPZ) Programme in the country.

The launch was graced by President William Ruto, who was invited by Trade Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Maino.

According to the CS plant, it will be used to manufacture clothing accessories such as tags and labels for high-profile companies around the company, which will portray Kenya as a preferred investment destination.

These companies include Mango J Crew, Columbia, LEVI'S, American Eagle Outfitters, and EPZ garment manufacturers and are set to invest USD 2 million, which will enable Kenya to be added to their 19 existing operations globally.

"In 2022, Nextgen Packaging Kenya EPZ Limited began its journey to set up this plant to manufacture clothes accessories such as tags and labels for high profile companies, namely Mango J Crew, Columbia, LEVI'S, American Eagle Outfitters, and EPZ garment manufacturers," she stated.

The CS further asserted that the opening of the company will address the the gaps in the country's textile value chain and reduce the country's import rate of these accessories.

"This boosts the country's journey to becoming vertically integrated in the textile and apparel value chain," she stated.

She further asserted that the program would be pivotal in providing more job opportunities in the country.

According to the CS, the EPZ program has generated more than 75,000 job opportunities in the country as of December 2023, with a cumulative investment of Sh148,972 million in 101 gazetted zones.
