KPA to clear port of overstay equipments, empty containers

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 24 - The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has said that it will dispose of all privately owned equipment and long-stay empty containers and equipment from the port of Mombasa within the next two weeks.
In a statement released yesterday by KPA's Managing Director William Ruto, it was stressed that the owners of these containers have been given an ultimatum of 14 days to evacuate their equipment from the port.
These items include stalled vehicles and tools that are within the port's sick bays.
Owners are expected to make payment of all charges due to the authority prior to their evacuation.
"Owners are hereby notified and required to make arrangements for their evacuation from the port premises within 14 days from the date of this notice,i.e, by close of business on 7th may 2024," he stated.
"A schedule listing all the overstayed empty containers may be obtained from the office of the manager container operations," he added.
KPA has stated that the removal of the containers will enable the port to maximize the use of all spaces in the port, which will boost its efficiency and service delivery.
"The port is undertakinga port clean up execise to free the yard areas and to maximise the use of all spaces to enhance safe and efficient operations/ service delivery ," he stated.
