CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) Western Cape premier candidate, Alan Winde, said a coalition government is not what he wants for the province.

Some political analysts believe a political power shift in the province is not farfetched, with the emergence of smaller parties trying to take a bite at the DA's support base.

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) is one of those parties that has taken a few municipal wards from the DA outside the Cape Town metro in the lead-up to the general elections.

When asked if the DA is open to a coalition government in the Western Cape should it fail to secure an outright majority, this is what Winde said: "We already have a coalition pact with other parties so that would be the first port of call - but that's not my plan.

"We won't work with the ANC [African National Congress], we won't work with the EFF [Economic Freedom Fighters], I won't work with the Patriotic Alliance because those three parties are in power in this province at the moment destroying those towns."
