State disburses over Sh2.08bn for elderly, disabled, vulnerable children

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 4 - The government has released over Sh2.08 billion for the April payment to beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii Program.
In a statement, the principal secretary of Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Joseph Motari, stated that the state has further released Sh7 million for nutrition improvement through cash and health education.
The funds were released yesterday by the ministry of labour and social protection.
"The ministry of labour and social protection has today, Friday 3rd May 2024 released KSHs 2,082,697,000 for April payment to beneficiaries enrolled in the inua Jamii programme and a further KSH 7,231,000 for nutritional improvement through cash and Health Education(NICHE), which is a complementary programme," he stated.
The Inua Jamii program stipends are usually meant to support the most vulnerable in society and help them cushion themselves from poverty and hunger and improve their lives.
"Inua jamii programme is a government cash transfer initiative that supports the most vulnerable members of the community by providing them with a stipend to cushion them from poverty, hunger and improve their lives," he stated.
Since July last year, the Inua Jamii beneficiaries have been benefiting from the fund on a monthly basis, following the directive by President William Ruto.
