Cops looking for witnesses to fatal crash

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash involving a lorry and a motorcycle along the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway to come forward to assist in the case.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Asst Comm Helmi Aris said those with information can contact the district police or the nearest police station.

"At 11.50am on Saturday, a 19-year-old riding a motorcycle at KM13.9 of the expressway from Kulim, Kedah, towards Seberang Jaya, collided with a lorry, causing him to skid off the road.

"The impact of the collision caused the teenager to be flung against a road barrier, resulting in him suffering serious injuries.

"The victim was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital," he said when contacted yesterday, according to Bernama.

ACP Helmi said that the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
