KINGSTON, Jamaica - Last season's beaten finalists Cavalier FC and Arnett Gardens FC played to a 1-1 draw in their first leg semi-final encounter Sunday in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League Playoffs at Sabina Park.

Cavalier dominated the opening proceedings with several goal scoring opportunities. The best chance fell in the 31st minute to Dwayne "Busy" Atkinson who was one on one with Arnett goalkeeper Eric Edwards but was unable to convert.

Despite the pressure, Arnett made the breakthrough in the 39th minute when Jaheim Thomas comfortably beat his defender and slotted home from the edge of the 18 yard box.

Their lead, however, was short-lived as Gadail Irving's cross found talisman Jalmaro Calvin at the back post and he headed home from close range.

The second half posed a major concern for Arnett as captain and leading goalscorer Fabian Reid had to be substituted within five minutes of the restart after pulling up with an apparent leg injury.

Clear cut chances were far and few between but Shai Smith had the best of the lot in the 84th. His first strike inside the area struck the post and his follow up shortly after was blasted into the side netting.

The second leg will be played next Sunday at Sabina Park.
