The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) recently orchestrated an exhilarating 10-over cricket match for GCC travel trade partners at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This match served as a lead-in to a series of promotional activities aligned with Barbados Tourism's participation in the Arabian Travel Market, which commences today.

Cricket in Barbados transcends the realm of sport, embodying a crucial aspect of the island's heritage and culture. With this in mind, BTMI arranged for the game to be overseen by cricket legends Joel Garner, the top-ranked One Day International bowler, and Ian Bradshaw, the former Under-19 West Indies captain and 2004 Championship Trophy winner.

Guided by Garner and Bradshaw, the participants refined their cricket skills and cherished a memorable outing on the pitch.

This event holds particular significance as Barbados prepares to host the 2024 Men's T20 Cricket World Cup, highlighting the island's deep cricketing roots and its stature as a premier event destination.

In addition to cricket, the day offered a fusion of sport, cultural festivities, and quintessential Barbadian hospitality. Celebrity chef Damian Leach and mixologist Alex Chandler treated the attendees to a showcase of Barbados' culinary excellence and distinctive beverages, enriching their experience of Barbadian culture.

Expressing her delight to host the cricket event, Cheryl Carter, Chief Operations Officer, BTMI said, "Today's match is a testament to the integral role of cricket in Barbados and its unifying power across nations. With Barbados hosting the World Cup this year, we are excited to showcase our country not only as a top tourist destination but also as a central hub for international cricket. This cricket match was not just about sport; it was about fostering relationships and sharing the spirit of Barbados with our valued travel partners,".

"We are grateful to Joel Garner and Ian Bradshaw for their mentorship, and to Damian Leach and Alex Chandler for adding a flavourful touch to the event." she added.

Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. continues to collaborate with travel partners to highlight Barbados as a top travel destination. Events such as the travel partner cricket match showcase the island's distinctive attractions and warm hospitality.
