Cops nab 26 in George Town special ops

GEORGE TOWN: A total of 26 people were arrested during a crime prevention operation conducted in several South-West District locations here over the weekend.
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the operation was carried out from Saturday (May 11) night until early Sunday (May 12) morning.
"The 26 were arrested for various offences involving four criminal cases, four commercial cases and 18 narcotics cases.
"A total of 18 vehicles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 while 151 summonses were issued for other offences.
"All those arrested were taken to the police station for further action," he said.
Supt Kamarul said the purpose of the operation was to not only curb illegal racing but to ensure that motorcyclists comply with traffic regulations and vehicle specifications.
"This operation is focused on locations that are popular sites for street racing and stunts.
"It was also aimed at detecting drunk drivers, preventing incidents of vehicle theft, house burglaries and other crimes," he added.
