NAIROBI, Kenya, May 12 - Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has lauded the commencement of the construction of a 250-kilometer road to bitumen standard, connecting Antananarivo and Toamasina in Madagascar, saying it will boost the growth of the region.
The project, spearheaded by the Gabeire A Group (GAG), she noted, signifies a profound impact on the interconnected regions of Kenya, Madagascar, and the wider African continent.
Miano emphasized the project's importance in advancing the objectives of her ministry, particularly in promoting investments, expanding market access, and boosting manufacturing's contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
She highlighted the project's role in facilitating Kenyan investments abroad, enhancing export trade, and exporting crucial skills and technology to sister African states.
"More than that, it has a profound impact on three interconnected regions of Kenya, Madagascar, and Africa. It is also a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and determination in shaping the future of Africa by bolstering the African Union's infrastructural objectives such as the Trans-African Corridors," she said.
Once constructed, the road is set to open up Africa through the creation of a corridor for the movement of goods, a factor that could bolster intercontinental trade.
