LTI and GTI tip off with wins in Tertiary Basketball League - Guyana Chronicle

LINDEN Technical Institute (LTI) and Government Technical Institute (GTI) got their Tertiary Basketball League campaign off to a fabulous start on Sunday when action tipped off in the Youth Basketball Guyana competition at the National Cultural Centre tarmac.
LTI took a comfortable 33 points victory when they faced off with New Amsterdam Technical Institute.
Kemol Grimmond was chief scorer for LTI with 22 points coupled with 19 rebounds as they dominated the contest.
Grimmond had good support from Neil Marks and Colin Phillips with 12 points each.
Marks also grabbed 7 rebounds but it was Lerone Joseph with nine points and 12 rebounds and Stephen George 8 points and 12 rebounds that led their team on the defence end.
Jared dainty led New Amsterdam points sheet with 16 points, with 7 rebounds and 6 steals in a losing effort.
New Amsterdam's Antwone Nelson with 14 points and Kymani Spellen 8 points also played well despite their loss.
Meanwhile, the day's second game saw GTI beating Guyana School of Agriculture 72-62 in the encounter.
Martin Edwards starred with 23 points and 5 rebounds with Jamal Mercier also dropping 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Peter Langevine also showed his skill with 14 points and 12 rebounds along with 6 steals.
GSA had Shannon Wilson to thank for his 23 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort.
Alwin DeFreitas 11 and Dennis Prince 8 also dropped some buckets for Guyana School of Agriculture.
The tournament will continue on Sunday, May 19, from 17:00 hours with the following three match-ups; firstly, University of Guyana versus GSA, Upper Corentyne Combined will play Linden Technical Institute and New Amsterdam Technical Institute against Government Technical Institute.
The Tertiary Basketball League will continue every Sunday and culminate on June 17, with the finals at the National Gymnasium.
