SEREMBAN: Police have crippled the activities of a drug syndicate following the arrest of six suspects and 5.2kg of syabu being seized in an operation here.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the suspects, including four foreigners, were caught in front of the Terminal One bus station along Jalan Sg Ujong around 9pm on Sunday (May 12).
"The six were in a car when they were stopped for an inspection.
"Upon checking, my men found the drugs in five packages inside the vehicle," he said in a statement.
DCP Ahmad Dzaffir said one of the suspects also tested positive for syabu.
"We believe the suspects are members of the same syndicate, and the drugs were meant to be sold in the southern states," he said, adding that the drugs could be used by some 10,400 users.
He said the drugs and other items seized from the suspects were worth about RM416,000.
DCP Ahmad Dzaffir said the suspects, aged between 28 and 46, have been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.
The case is being probed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39B, which provides the death sentence or life imprisonment upon conviction.
The penalty comes with 12 strokes of the cane if sentenced to life imprisonment.
