ENUGU, Nigeria - Afamefuna Ojukwu, son of the late Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, has achieved a significant milestone by graduating with a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Texas (UNT).
The achievement fulfils a long-standing dream of his mother, Bianca Ojukwu, former beauty queen and ambassador to Spain. It is symbolised by his wearing of a blue suit, a vision his mother had when he was just three years old.
Following concurrent degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering, Afamefuna's latest academic success has brought immense joy to his mother, Amb. Lady Bianca Ojukwu shared her pride on social media.
"My son Afamefuna Odumegwu Ojukwu has made me proud once again. When he was in primary 3, I pasted a cut-out picture from a magazine on my ledge. It was of a clean-cut young man in a blue suit just starting out in life after his university studies," she wrote.
"I told my son that this was how I wished he would be. Sensing some pressure, his father, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu would always laugh and tell me that 'the robe does not make the monk', even if he ended up as a mechanic, the important thing was that he infused dignity into his labour or endeavours.
"'Nnewi DNA is the Code', he would playfully proclaim, reminding me that Afam Louis Philippe Ojukwu was named after his own father, the great Sir Louis Philippe Ojukwu, who despite not having a university degree, became Nigeria's first Billionaire and sat as chairman of over 15 conglomerates in his relatively brief lifetime.
"After concurrent degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering, Afam has just completed his MBA Masters in Business Administration) at the University of North Texas (UNT). I am fulfilled that he kept my dream.
"Despite his aversion to suits, he wore that blue suit for me on this graduation day to evoke those memories of the picture on my ledge, which I had long forgotten. He remembered.
"His father, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu would have been proud that not only did Afam obtain some 'Mechanic' training as a Mechanical Engineer, he equally made it as a graduate in 2 other fields.
"To God be the Glory. Dear Friends, 'Mama Engineer' is asking you once again to please thank God with me!"
