'WC urgently needs African-coloured solidarity to root out DA,' says ANC provincial chairperson

CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape says it is intent on using the election to rid the province of the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The party's provincial chairperson Vuyiso Tyhalisisu alluded to this when he cast his special vote on Monday.

More special voters are expected to head to the polls again on Tuesday, ahead of the 7th national democratic elections on Wednesday.

Tyhalisisu said he voted to end white minority rule in Western Cape.

"I encourage all of our people to vote to remove the DA from power. It was a wonderful moment to be voting for the last time under white supremacy."

The ANC's Dullah Omar regional chairperson, Ndithini Tyhido, who cast his special vote in Khayelitsha, called on black and coloured people in the province to unite against the DA.

"Our situation here in the Western Cape requires all of us, especially coloured and African people, to put aside whatever we think is urgent. What is urgent is an African-coloured solidarity to root out the DA in the Western Cape."

Over 1.6 million people are expected to cast special votes in the two days dedicated to early votes.

Special voting will continue throughout the country on Tuesday.
