HOPEDALE -- Ben Maurer of Hopedale will celebrate his 100th birthday.
Ben was born on June 2, 1924 in Hopedale, and has been a lifelong resident and farmer.
He was married to Virginia until she passed away in 1992. He is now happily married to Beverly and they reside at The Hopedale Commons Assisted Living.
He is the father of Brenda Maurer Dannewitz, of Clearwater, Florida. He has two grandchildren: Charlie (Danielle) and Ashley (Jake); and four-great-grandsons: Mason, Christian, and Preston, of Pine Mountain, Georgia; and Graham, of Charleston, West Virginia.
Ben has enjoyed traveling to many states and countries over his lifetime. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radioman on the USS Hannah, a destroyer escort ship in the Pacific, which was one of the first ships into Tokyo Bay after the war was over. He has rebuilt several antique tractors and cars over the years.

He has a strong Christian faith and has been a lifelong member of Hopedale United Methodist Church, the Delavan Masonic Lodge, and the Peoria Scottish Rite.
