THE South African Rainbow Alliance (Sara) has been left to nurse their burnt wounds as they watch their numbers on the polls.
Colleen Makhubele's newly formed party has garnered just about 0.03% of votes which amounts to just 4 616 supporters on a national level.
This for Makhubela was a slap on the face as she felt blindsided by people she though rallied behind her.
She was speaking to the SunTeam at the Independent Electoral Commission Results Centre in Midrand, Gauteng.
"We are not very happy with the results. We expected much more given the work that we have put in from rallies in Limpopo and manifesto launch in the North West and the number we have in Gauteng.
"What happened to the 10 000 people who attended our rallies?" she said.
Makhubele said that these numbers symbolise a South Africa that, despite its calls for change, often returns to its traditional ways.
She said that the country still isn't ready to embrace women in leadership roles."
"When you look at the top 10 you can pick up a pattern you can see perhaps the country is not ready for a woman president.
"Young people and woman say one thing and vote the other. As you would see it old men and parties that are divided into tribes and race. All the woman parties have not done well up until now," she said.
Among the last performing Limpopo with just over 600 votes, in Mpumalanga with just more than 500 votes and North West just over 200 votes.
While this may feel like a dagger in the chest for the newborn party, for them this is a learning curve.
Makhubele said they are not backing away from the fight and will continue to stay on.
"This is not the end of the game, we are going back to the drawing board. The things we have picked up will guide on how we regroup," she said.
