PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian firm said to be facing US sanctions for allegedly supplying components to Russia's military is not registered for such activities, says the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti).

It stressed that the country enforces trade management through the Strategic Trade Act (STA) 2010, which regulates the export, transit, transshipment and brokering of strategic items, especially those with potential military applications.

"Based on records, Jatronics Sdn Bhd is not registered (for such activities) under STA and has not applied for export permits," it said in a statement yesterday.

Malaysia, the ministry added, adheres to multilateral sanctions and the restricted or prohibited end-user list under the UN Security Council Resolutions (UNSCR).

"Russia has not been listed by UNSCR and therefore is not included under STA," it added.

It also confirmed that Jatronics is not a semiconductor manufacturer but a trading company that specialises in semiconductor products and fabrication services.

The statement follows Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan's comment that Jatronics is a trading company, not a semiconductor producer.
