Two reports with over RM500,000 in losses linked to Dobevil, Dobemall mobile apps

PETALING JAYA: Two reports involving over half a million ringgit in losses have been linked to the Dobemall and Dobevil phone applications, says Bukit Aman.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf (pic) said that the two reports involving an estimated RM540,000 in losses were lodged in Selangor and Sarawak.

He said that in the Selangor report, the victim was coaxed into downloading the app by a friend on TikTok whereas the victim in Sarawak was told to download it after clicking on a Facebook advertisement.

The victims were then told to use the app to make purchases with the promise of making profits from each buy.

"They would be able to see their commissions increase. However, they were hit with various fees when they tried to to take the money out," he said.

Comm Ramli added that both applications are currently being investigated, and that the Dobemall app is still available for download.

"The links between the two apps are being investigated. We do not deny the possibility of both being operated by the same syndicate.

"The CCID will work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take down the app to avoid more people falling victim," he said.

The Dobevil app had been highlighted in previous media reports following national mixed doubles badminton player Lai Pei Jing posting on her social media that she had fallen prey to an investment scam.

It is believed that Dobevil was the app used by the scammer.
