BELMONT COUNTY, O.H. -- The Underground Railroad Museum held their Juneteenth celebration today.
Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19, commemorating the day Major General Granger gave General Order Number 3, informing the last of the enslaved people they were free.
At this event attendees had the opportunity to try Southern and West African Food, listen to traditional drumming, and watch a performance by the Goree Drum and Dance Group.
"So, it's truly a day to celebrate a lot of the things that people had to endure back in those days and it's a day to celebrate equality with, you know, a lot of the things that we are still working on today."
Mattox Jr. says he is excited to celebrate an important day in America's history and bring awareness to those who are unfamiliar with the holiday.
