Three suspects to appear in Cape Town Regional Court on extortion, kidnapping charges

CAPE TOWN - Three suspects are expected to appear in the Cape Town Regional Court on Tuesday on charges of extortion and kidnapping.

The Hawks said they caught the suspects after tracking the cellphone signal of a victim who was tied up in a house in Woodstock on Friday.

Investigators also said they followed information through the suspect's suspicious banking activities and money transfer patterns.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, has urged the public to remain vigilant.

"The team tracked the suspect's location in Woodstock, where entry was gained into the premises and the team discovered the hostage tied up in the main bedroom and was successfully rescued, then taken to hospital for examination."
