WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) -- It was the quintessential summer experience at Oakland Beach in Warwick on Wednesday.
"They say Oakland Beach is the place to be," Tracey Fields of Woonsocket said. "Haven't seen 94's in a while, so it's time to get it while we can. You don't know how long it's gonna last."
Some beachgoers traveled from inland for a reprieve from this week's heat.
"It's about 90-95 in our area with the humidity," Julian Coburn from Attleboro said. "So it's definitely better off over here."
For others, the heat means a busy day at work.
"They're around here cooling off, staying nice and cool down at the beach," Michelle Sweet, a Del's driver from Warwick, said. "I wish I was over there, but I've got the best view over here. I can sit here and sell lemonade all day and I'm all set."
Heading to the coast is a no-brainer for locals this time of year.
"I feel like, if you're in Rhode Island, you need to go to the beach," Gianna Keh from West Warwick said.
"Yeah, it's kind of what we're known for," Melina Panagopoulos added.
For those who can't make it to the beach during this hot stretch, many cities, including Providence, have opened water parks and cooling centers to help you beat the heat.
