NIBONG TEBAL: All government schools, including full boarding schools, must follow the recently introduced Dual Language Programme (DLP) guidelines, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister said the ministry had requested that every school strictly follow and refer to the guidelines provided.

"All schools, including full boarding schools, must adhere to the guidelines. No exceptions will be made for any particular type of school," she said Thursday (June 20)

She said the ministry will help schools experiencing difficulties implementing the guidelines to ensure compliance over the DLP programme.

She also denied any schools were given leeway from implementing the programme.

The Nibong Tebal MP was responding to the recent claim by Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia chairman Noor Azimah Rahim who said that elite schools such as Malay College Kuala Kangsar and Tunku Kurshiah College were exempted from the new rule.

Noor Azimah also said that the new guidelines explicitly exclude Sarawak

She had said it had exclusively allowed all of Sarawak's primary schools to conduct DLP in full since 2020, which means that the medium of instruction for all science and mathematics classes is English.

Earlier, Fadhlina launched the Sekolah Pengajar and Sahabat Bahasa programme at SK Sungai Bakap here.

The programme is part of the ministry's efforts in improving and elevating Bahasa Malaysia and English among the education diaspora in the country.

The programme includes cultural activities, critical reading, classroom magazines and others.
