BRIDGETOWN, Bar­ba­dos - Left-han­der Kyle May­ers had been called up to the West In­dies squad af­ter open­er Bran­don King was ruled out of the Twen­ty20 World Cup with a side strain.

The 29-year-old King, who scored 85 runs from five in­nings, went down in pain af­ter play­ing a stroke in his 23 against Eng­land in West In­dies' open­ing game of the Su­per Eights last Wednes­day in St Lu­cia.

He took no fur­ther part in the con­test which the co-hosts lost by eight wick­ets at the Daren Sam­my Crick­et Sta­di­um.

May­ers, who was un­lucky to miss on the fi­nal squad, will now join the Caribbean side on Sat­ur­day, ahead of their fi­nal game of the Su­per Eights against South Africa at the Vi­vian Richards Crick­et Ground in An­tigua on Sun­day.

The 31-year-old has played 37 T20 In­ter­na­tion­als, scor­ing three fifties with a strike rate of 140.

West In­dies face Unit­ed States in their sec­ond game of the Su­per Eights at Kens­ing­ton Oval lat­er Fri­day.
