BRIDGETOWN, Barbados - Left-hander Kyle Mayers had been called up to the West Indies squad after opener Brandon King was ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup with a side strain.
The 29-year-old King, who scored 85 runs from five innings, went down in pain after playing a stroke in his 23 against England in West Indies' opening game of the Super Eights last Wednesday in St Lucia.
He took no further part in the contest which the co-hosts lost by eight wickets at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium.
Mayers, who was unlucky to miss on the final squad, will now join the Caribbean side on Saturday, ahead of their final game of the Super Eights against South Africa at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua on Sunday.
The 31-year-old has played 37 T20 Internationals, scoring three fifties with a strike rate of 140.
West Indies face United States in their second game of the Super Eights at Kensington Oval later Friday.
